SHORT HISTORY OF THE PARK

Tibidabo is an iconic space in the city of Barcelona, due to its location at the highest point of the city, some 500 metres above sea level in the heart of Collserola Natural Park, and because it is a fond memory of leisure and fun for the city’s citizens. 

It was constructed by Salvador Andreu and opened in 1899. Two years later, in 1901, the Tibidabo Funicular started running. The Amusement Park is for families, not only because family visits to the Park have always been and continue to be a tradition, but also because all people of any age and in any condition can find suitable activities matching their social and cultural circumstances.

In 2002 the Barcelona City Council became the owner of the Park, awarding management to the municipal company BSM and keeping its status as a limited company (PATSA).

DEVELOPMENT

Since 2003 the Park has constantly grown and evolved, attaining important milestones such as being awarded ISO 9001 quality certification and the EFQM seal of business excellence, the start-up of a management system to actively listen to customers, the creation of an economical family season ticket, Tibiclub, the adding of new and unique rides like the roller coaster and the remodelling of other iconic attractions like the Magic Mirrors.

It has also promoted policies to respect the environment and its surroundings, undertaking important actions like the revival and opening of the top part of the Park, the Sky Walk. The works to pedestrianise the peak, in parallel with large-scale works to maximise access to the Park by public transport, are just a couple of the great challenges that have been undertaken in recent years.

The Park has deepened its solidarity work with NGOs and different organisations by hosting numerous cultural events. Supporting Catalan culture has also played an important role.

Educational programmes with teaching activities where knowledge can be developed and expanded have also been promoted by Park management.
